Yesterday Courtyard by Marriott and Four Winds Interative announced their new GoBoard 4.0, which is an interactive virtual concierge and digital sign. The GoBoard kiosk is designed to provide real-time news, weather and local information to hotel guests. The interactive display is also capable of delivering important information, such as a user's flight status and local directions. This gives hotel guests the ability to obtain important information regardless of the time of day. What does this mean for hotel employees and concierge staff members? In an economic world where jobs are scarce and unemployment is still high, is the implementation of a digital concierge really the right solution for your business? True, the investment is probably much less than a few salaries, therefore making this a great solution for when economic times are tough; however wouldn't it be nice to utilize technology and digital signage to help increase the number of jobs available instead of eliminate them altogether? We are not saying this new interactive kiosk isn't an exciting advancement to the hotel industry, but we can't help but think of the potential result of using the new technology during a time when jobs are threatened already.
