AVT Puts Digital Signage In Vending Machines
Automated Vending Technologies, Inc. (AVT) has began combining digital signage screens in RAM 4000 vending machines. Their offering is available as a turn-key bundle only, as the complete digital signage machine must be purchased to get the technology. They are not currently offering any component sales, modular unit sales, or retrofitting options. The digital signage that has been installed in the vending machines feature a 7" X 7" LCD screen, and multiple content propagation options. The system uses flash memory to store active content until it is deleted or replaced, which can be accomplished either at the machine or through remote administration. Advertisers are allowed approximately 3.5 megabytes per ad unit. AVT are also testing out larger LCD screens in several vending venues by hanging 32-inch screens on the wall beside the machine. Like the smaller vending machine-housed digital signage screens, these larger screens will display some vending product advertisements and some external advertisements. They are connecting the larger screens to the vending machines and the screens are controlled by digital signage components inside the machine. Advertisement units generally run from 10-seconds to 15-seconds and are played in a looped schedule with a number of other advertisements. AVT is also testing a new 60/40 split screen format where the larger section is carrying live television and the smaller area is displaying vending machine product advertisements. AVT is not currently offering touch-screen digital signage, but is testing the application in about 10 vending locations of varying size and type, and on screens of differing sizes.
