Digital Signage Screen Layout

The digital signage industry is so new and thus lacks the research on how screen layouts affect consumer decision making. The nature of digital signage and digital displays allows for the ability to create and display various customized presentations using a split-screen feature offered in most digital signage software packages today. This feature enables the digital display unit to show several media sources at the same time.

A popular format, the 60/40 split, allows digital signage operators to promote their own products and services on the larger, top portion of the screen while showing external advertising content in the lower portion, for which they can earn ad revenue.

Several vending suppliers are testing split screen displays both on the vending machine and alongside the machine. AVT is experimenting with a 60/40 split screen format with the larger section showing live television and the smaller area is showing advertisements for products sold inside the vending machine.

This split screen layout can be applied in most conventional brick and mortar retail spaces.
