Vending Machine Digital Signage
Digital signage providers are breaking in to the vending space in 2006, and have been testing a variety of vending machine digital signage formats with LCD screens or touch screens built right in to the machines. There has been some varried prototypes seen in the marketplace to date. One supplier is testing small screen placement above the vending machine's payment mechanism, another is testing a larger screen across the top portion of the machine, a third has been experimenting with linking wall-hung screens with an on-board display, and others focus on implementing varied touch screen applications. This round of testing has proven that as digital signage equipment lowers in cost, its application possibilities grow exponentially. Most of the digital signage that has gone in to vending machines has been based on the LCD display components. Experiments with touch-screen technology and self-guided video content have proven effective when coupled with vending machines, especially when the items offered for sale are not traditionally vended products. (e.g. cameras, wireless phones, and iPods)
